The trend to premium products has driven growth in the hot beverages category with all five tea and coffee brands in the Checkout Nielsen Top 100 Grocery Brands league in growth.
Nescafé is the biggest brand – positioned 6th in the overall table. It grew by 4.6% last year with sales driven by its premium products including Connoisseur and café style coffees plus Gold Blend.
PG Tips has overtaken Tetley as the biggest tea brand following growth of 5.4% last year.
The Unilever-owned brand has been spurred on by its commitment to sourcing tea from Rainforest Alliance certified sources.
Premium trends also drove Kenco and Twinings last year, up 5% and 11.7% respectively.
