Fine food distributor R.H. Amar & Co. Ltd. has signed a deal to become exclusive UK distributor for Greek mezze, antipasti and ready meal specialist Palirria.
The deal, which covers distribution to both the grocery retail and foodservice sectors, further strengthens R.H. Amar’s stronghold in the growing Greek foods market, adding to its Greek portfolio that also includes olives, olive oil and tapenades.
The deal represents a huge opportunity in a growing sector. As well as Greece’s historical association with this summer’s Olympics, Greece is expected to be one of this year’s most popular destinations for UK holidaymakers, and is likely to fuel even greater interest in Greek foods.
Greek foods are currently the sixth most popular dish in the ready meals market, with further growth expected as the UK’s ready meals market is set to top £3bn by 2015.
The Palirria brand is already available in Tesco, as well as enjoying a considerable worldwide presence with a foothold in 40 countries.
Products include premium, authentic Greek recipes such as Dolmas (Vine Leaves stuffed with Rice), Gigantes (Baked Giant Beans), Imam (Aubergines in Tomato Sauce), Young Okras in Tomato Sauce, Meatballs in Tomato Sauce and Aubergine Pulp.
RSPs for the 280g cans will range from £1.69-£2.59, while each ‘upside down’ can offers a unique merchandising opportunity with branding and product descriptions on all sides.
R.H. Amar has the option to draw on a premium Mediterranean ready-meal and snack portfolio totalling some 50 products.
