Foster’s to handle Fairtrade wine in impulse

South African wine company Origin Wine has appointed Foster’s EMEA to handle all the sales and distribution of its Fairhills Fairtrade wine brand within the impulse and convenience sector.

Launched in the UK in 2005, the Fairhills brand has established itself as one of the leading mainstream Fairtrade wine brands and Origin has shipped over 250,000 cases of Fairtrade wine from the Fairhills initiatives over the last 12 months.

The range of red, white and rosé wines from South Africa and Argentina give consumers an “easy introduction” to the growing Fairtrade wine market. Fairhills from Chile will launch in September this year and will be added to the Foster’s impulse portfolio thereafter.

Jon Woodriffe, UK Sales Director for Origin Wine said: “Foster’s EMEA has a proven track record of driving distribution through the impulse and convenience sector and we are delighted to be working with them to extend our successful brand into this category.”

Rob Page, Foster’s EMEA sales controller, said: “At Foster’s EMEA we are extremely excited to have become the distributor of the Fairhills brand throughout the impulse sector. With Fairtrade products becoming more and more prevalent in the market place and the minds of the consumer, it is important that retailers have exactly the right Fairtrade offering.

“We believe that the Fairhills wine brand offers a real opportunity for both wholesalers and retailers to convey the Fairtrade message to consumers and to also drive this fast growing wine category still further.”
