Products entered into the hotly contested British Turkey Awards 2012 have now been shortlisted and samples called in for judging this month.
The nine retailer and catering categories range from Best Meal Solution and Best Ready-to-Eat to Best Innovation, plus the obligatory Best Christmas Traditional and Best Christmas Convenience.
Some of the supermarkets all year round offerings competing for an award include popular flavour combinations to tempt shoppers, such as Morrisons Tomato and Mozzarella Topped Turkey Escalopes, Asda Chilli Turkey Burgers, and Sainsbury’s “Just Cook” Turkey Escalope with Garlic Butter & Parmesan Crumb.
Convenience across the categories is also evident, with many turkey products providing the consumer with added value – from ready prepared stuffings and toppings to oven-ready boned and rolled premium Christmas joints complete with their own foil cooking trays.
On 20 July the independent panel of judges will taste their way through 13 different whole roast turkeys before choosing three finalists for the coveted Best Christmas Traditional trophy.
Chair of Judges is Christine Parsons, food writer Chat magazine, and she will be joined by Julia Glotz, fresh foods editor The Grocer, Sheila Eggleston, editor Stockpot, and two members of the public who have won a place on the panel via the British Turkey website. They will be judging against specified criteria involving taste, value for money and suitability for the target market.
Winners of each category, plus the top accolade of Retailer of the Year, will be announced at a gala dinner on 27 September at The Savoy, London.
