The latest instalment in the new £14m advertising investment behind Carling, Britain’s best selling lager, makes its debut on television screens across the UK.
Featuring the same five characters as the previous ads, the new story again highlights the unwavering loyalty of a group of close mates. On this occasion, riding to the rescue of a mate trapped at the tea party from hell. Click play below to watch the clipWhere “Space” saw Carling's heroes travelling through time and space to a portal at the end of the universe, and “Out” turned them into turn of the century Polar Explorers, “Rescue” shows the (Magnificent) Five as pioneers of the early Wild West.
Each member of the group is seen receiving an urgent telegram, one by one they drop whatever pressing matter they have at hand and ride, only to discover their mate at the dullest tea party in the West.
Putting their heads together, the boys spring his escape via the utterly unlikely excuse of “Your house has been blown away…” And they're gone, into the sunset.
The commercial was shot on location in Spain at the site of Sergio Leone's seminal “Good, the Bad and the Ugly” and “Once Upon A Time in the West”. As with the previous two “Mates” commercials, it was directed by Fredrik Bond through Sonny Pictures.
“Rescue” is part of a 10-week campaign and will break with 60-second spots on TV and cinema nationally. It will also be supported by online activity of a distinctly Wild West nature.
Martin Coyle, Carling Brand Director says: “This latest instalment of the adventures of our five mates continues to build on Carling's credentials as Britain's most sociable pint.”
Carling is also investing in a major push behind cold beer this summer under the theme 'Strike Cold', with full on and off trade activity planned as well as the recently announced broadcast sponsorship of ITV2, ITV3 and ITV4 movies.
