Nestlé Rowntree unwraps "win £20" promotion

Wednesday, 09 January 2008
Nestlé Rowntree is launching an on-pack cash promotion for the New Year that is set to increase sales for retailers.

KitKat Win 20
The text to win promotion, enabling consumers to win £20 cash, will run across key Nestlé Rowntree brands from mid January.

Consumers will have 100,000 opportunities to win £20 by texting unique codes placed inside wrappers.

Participating brands include Nestlé Rowntree’s biggest chocolate brands KitKat and Aero, plus Rowntree’s – the fastest growing major confectionery brand of 2007 – now with 25% real fruit juice.

Graham Walker, Nestlé UK Trade Communications Manager, comments, “This is a motivating promotion for retailers and consumers alike. We know from consumer insight that text to win promotions work well, especially those with simple mechanics that tell consumers instantly if they have won or lost.

“Now is the perfect time of year to be offering consumers a little extra cash. Retailers will therefore benefit from the extra sales and footfall that this promotion will create.

“Retailers should take this opportunity to site dumpbins in high footfall areas to ensure they drive maximum sales”.

The £20 cash promotion will run on packs of KitKat 4 Finger Milk (RRP 40p), KitKat 4 Finger Dark (RRP 40p), KitKat Chunky Milk (RRP 40p), KitKat Chunky Peanut Butter (RRP 40p), Rowntree’s Fruit Pastilles (RRP 39p), Rowntree’s Fruit Gums (RRP 39p) and Aero Milk Bar (RRP 40p).

With sales of Kitkat...
With sales of Kitkat alone ~ 250m p/a, only 100k chances to win, a text message costing ~ 25p and a return of 20 - you have a 2500-1 chance of winning and they pay out at 80-1. Who could resist? :o)

This is sickening, you can't buy anything with out being forced to gamble or at least have it in the face. Promotions that help stop human trafficking would be better.
