Panasonic Special Power batteries switch to alkaline

Tuesday, 03 July 2007
Panasonic Special Power, the UK’s best selling zinc battery, is ‘moving on up’ to alkaline technology.

The UK battery market continues to be dominated by alkaline, as today's high power products require longer lasting batteries. Convenience retailers can capitalise on this trend, and increase their sales and profits, by moving from an entry-level zinc range to an entry-level alkaline range.

That's where Panasonic comes in, with its best-selling Special Power batteries that are now boosted with alkaline technology. New Alkaline Special Power batteries now last up to four times longer, and the shelf-life has moved on up too - from three years to an impressive five years.

Panasonic - a trusted battery brand

As part of its new product development, Panasonic listened to more than 1000 CTN consumers to find out what they're really looking for when making a battery purchase. Choosing a trusted brand was found to be the most important factor when buying batteries from a convenience store. Panasonic is already well-placed as it has been ranked in the top three of the most trusted battery brands for today's high tech appliances.

Research also showed that CTN consumers want batteries that will last in a wide variety of products, but they don't want to spend a fortune on them. People expect more from batteries these days, even though not everyone knows the difference between zinc and alkaline technology. Whilst zinc batteries are designed for low power everyday products, alkaline batteries are ideal for use in a huge variety of high power appliances, from digital cameras, electric toys and games, to radios and battery-powered toothbrushes and shavers.

Extra selling power from price-marked packs

Did you know that 77% of consumers are more inclined to buy products that are price-marked? For this reason, Panasonic decided to price-mark its Alkaline Special Power packs at £2.49, following research that showed how this price point meets the expectations of more than half of CTN consumers. This gives shoppers more confidence in their purchase and is also more convenient for retailers, boosting their sales and profit potential.

Panasonic Batteries - the must-stock alkaline battery range

With such a wide range of uses for alkaline batteries, combined with the fact that batteries are often bought as a distress purchase, CTNs and convenience stores are perfectly placed to capitalise on this opportunity by stocking a sensibly-priced alkaline battery from a name their customers trust – so now's the ideal time to move on up with Panasonic!
