Topps' is reporting that sales of the third series of Match Attax are significantly higher than the previous two years, making it look certain to retain its title of best selling collectable in the UK for a third year running.
Latest figures from Mills Stores, based in the Midlands and North East England, show that packets of Topps Match Attax are outselling Twix bars by 33 to one - despite the high profile advertising campaign being run by Mars.
In Scotland, Premier League Match Attax is outselling Scottish Premier League collections three to one, with Scottish Martin & McColls stores now listing it as their second biggest selling publication behind Take a Break magazine.
Topps is again using their wave allocation system to ensure independents have sufficient stock at launch and over the following months. This means that a retailer should not be out of stock for more than one week without a re-supply, and that they will know when to expect their next delivery.
Sales of starter packs have seen particularly high sales increases with figures showing increases of 208% in some areas.
Topps is expecting more starter pack stock to be ready for distribution next week, and has also ordered two re-prints of cards to meet demand.
Steve Conner, UK Sales Manager at Topps, said: "Every year we have increased the amount of Match Attax distributed in the UK, and every year it has still sold at an incredible rate. Demand is so high for this product that whatever quantity we put out sells in a very short space of time."
"We are aware that some retailers are experiencing stock shortages at the moment, but please rest assured that we are doing all we can to meet demand."
