Mars, the nations favourite chocolate bar, is encouraging Britain to get playing as part of its new, ‘Mars Bounce into a Summer of British sport' campaign. The national promotion will run from April to August this year and will see the brand giving away 200,000 balls through on-pack, trade and sampling, for some of the UK's favourite sports. Building on the success of last year's ‘Mars Balls Get Britain Playing' campaign, the brand continues to tap into the nation's love of ball sports, this time extending its promotion to cover cricket, rugby and tennis in addition to football. With a golden summer of sport ahead, Mars is aiming to channel the nation's spirit and optimism and encourage the country to go out, get active and play. The ‘Mars Bounce into a Summer of British Sport' on pack promotion and giveaway of 200,000 balls will be supported with a £5m media spend focused on encouraging the nation to get their hands on a ball, head down to the local park and get playing. Consumer excitement and awareness will be driven via TV advertising, media partnerships with The Sun and Talksport, as well as energetic support from Mars' four high-profile sports ambassadors, or Mars ‘Bouncers' if you will - Pat Cash, Darren Gough, John Barnes and Austin Healey, who will also be featured on POS. The campaign will be supported through national events and PR activity. The ‘Mars Bounce into a Summer of British Sport' promotion will run across single and duo Mars bars, Mars Multipacks, Mars Planets and Mars ice cream bars. Mars will support the on pack promotions with impactful retail displays. 100,000 balls will be given away through the instant win on pack, and a no purchase necessary route exists for all competitions. Consumers can enter their unique code into the fun and interactive website www.marsballsgetbritainplaying.com to win a ball and learn more about the campaign. The website goes live on April 20 2009. The campaign will be supported with high profile media partnerships - The Sun, the UK's favourite tabloid, and Talksport, the UK's biggest commercial radio station, will run exclusive ‘Mars Bounce into a Summer of British Sport' content and amplify messaging throughout the campaign. In collaboration with these partners, MARS will be holding a ‘Bounce Off' sports event on 14th June in London. This ‘Game of Four Halves' will feature teams made up of members of the public selected by each Bouncer who will then play against each other in shortened versions of football, cricket, tennis and rugby. Each team will be individually captained by a Bouncer which will provide an excellent opportunity for these lucky consumers to not only watch their heroes, but play with them as well. This builds upon the success of the Mars Believe and Mars Balls Get Britain Playing campaigns that won first prize for the best integrated marketing campaign. Bep Sandhu, Mars Chocolate UK Trade Relations Manager says: "We are confident ‘Mars Bounce into a Summer of British Sport' is going to be another winning campaign." Source: Mars
