Butt Foods creates home-run sub roll

Thursday, 12 February 2009
Bakery innovator Butt Foods has responded to the growing popularity of takeaway sub rolls by creating a new home-run sub roll for retail.

The foot-long fully baked breads will give customers the option of making their favourite sub rolls at home - at a time when more and more people are said to be making their own packed lunches.

Butt Foods managing director David Williams said he believed the award-winning Nottingham-based firm was the first to launch such a product for retail.

"With more than 30,000 Subway stores worldwide, including 1,500 in the UK alone which will grow to 2,010 stores by 2010, there's big demand from consumers to make their favourite sub roll sandwiches at home," said David.

"At the same time, we're hearing that more people are making their own packed lunches to save money, so this launch of a new product is very timely."

Available in a retail two-pack, branded or own label, the foot-long home-run sub roll is soft and light. It comes in white and in half white/half wholemeal, which has double the fibre of the white sub roll.

Butt Foods can add a range of toppings, including semolina, honey and oats, or mixed seeds.
