Varta's Power Accu range voted best buy

Tuesday, 11 November 2008
Varta's rechargeable Power Accu range has been recommended by Which? - the largest consumer body in the UK - as a best buy on the market.

The range, tested as part of the magazine's annual batteries test, chalked-up a 100 per cent score when tested for features such as value and lifespan against other leading brands.

Driven by the rise of gadgets such as digital cameras and MP3 players, battery usage is on the increase.

And rechargeables, according to the Which? report, are recognised as being kind to the environment, as well as consumers' pockets.

Instead of paying over and over again for single-use batteries, rechargeables can typically be re-used up to 500 times.

Vince Armitage (pictured), divisional vice president of Varta Consumer UK, commented: "These tests confirm that Varta delivers on its promise of long lasting power at an affordable price. Which? reports carry a great deal of weight and kudos, and we're delighted with the results.

"With the Batteries Directive - meaning all portable batteries will need to be collected and recycled - coming into force next year, we've been working hard to develop an eco-friendly range of rechargeable products which can deliver a high performance but can still be easily disposed of at the end of their lives."

The test also highlighted the importance of only purchasing batteries from known sources.

Which? revealed that lifespan varies significantly, with some of the cheaper batteries from the Far East lasting just six minutes.

Initially appearing like a bargain, these batteries are fast making their way into our marketplace, typically being sold at market stalls and discount stores.

The vast majority of portable batteries contain harmful substances such as mercury which often end up in landfill, ultimately polluting the earth.

Therefore the most effective way to reduce pollution from batteries is to make the shift towards rechargeables.

With the environment high on the public's agenda, Varta has realised these benefits and has recently launched an extensive range of rechargeable products.

By joining the ‘rechargeable revolution' and only purchasing batteries from known brands, consumers can expect longer lifespan, which in turn cuts down on waste batteries, waste packaging and of course gives you peace of mind.
