Nichols plc, the makers of one of the UK's most iconic and successful soft drinks, Vimto, has been named Business of the Year.
The firm received the prestigious accolade of Manchester Evening News Business of the Year at a gala award ceremony hosted by BBC TV presenter Andrew Marr and attended by 300 movers and shakers of the north west region's business community.
Manchester Evening News Business of the Year awards is an annual celebration to recognise the wealth of business excellence in the north west.
Recognised in the category for AIM-listed and private firms turning over more than £50m a year, Nichols plc beat health care giant BUPA and environmental construction services firm, Ascot Environmental to the top spot.
Nichols plc received the accolade in the year its flagship brand, Vimto, celebrates its centenary.
Since being developed in Manchester in 1908 as a health tonic by John Noel Nichols, the business has grown from strength to strength and is now available in 65 countries worldwide and worth a record £50.2m in the UK alone.
Now one of the UK's leading soft drinks companies, Nichols plc is committed to serving its customers, caring for its employees and supporting the communities in which its consumers and staff live and work.

This year's awards judging panel included respected business figures such as David McKeith, north west senior partner at accountancy giant PricewaterhouseCoopers, law firm Pinsent Masons' corporate finance partner Helen Ridge, Malcolm Buchanan, regional director of corporate banking at RBS and Manchester Evening News deputy business editor Kevin Feddy.
