Jack Link's begins new development programme

Thursday, 06 November 2008

Jack Link's, the world's leading supplier of meat snacking products, is embarking on its biggest ever UK new product development programme.

The company is seeking to accelerate its growth in the UK and other European markets with a series of innovative new product launches over the next six months, beginning with what the company believes is the market's first range of ‘light' meat snacks.

Initially the company is launching X Bites and X Sticks - dried, seasoned sausages with only 27% fat.

Michael Ollerup, European Managing Director of Jack Link's, says the two new products will add incremental growth to the category by offering consumers a lower fat alternative to traditional meat snacking products.

"The meat snacking market grew by 12% in 2008. Our new products add an exciting new dimension to a category that has for many years been dominated by one sausage snack.

Our sausages have less fat than leading competitive products, with no compromise on quality or taste. The other differentiator is that our products do not feature an outer skin and this format has researched very favourably with consumers," he says.

Along with being the UK's first light sausage snack, X Bites and X Sticks have a number of other unique selling points. The packaging has been developed with the UK's growing ‘Food to Go' and ‘On the Move' markets in mind.

Michael says: "The packaging was developed so that busy consumers can ‘rip and tip', allowing the snack to be conveniently opened and eaten with one hand!"

"The new range will help retailers to meet the rapidly-growing demand for healthier alternatives to traditional snacks whilst providing them with the chance to generate high margin returns from a premium range of meat snacks.

"Jack Link's market share increased by 12% in 2008. I am confident that with the launch of these products we will see this continue to grow."

The Jack Link's range will be supported by instore promotions and a wide ranging PR and marketing campaign throughout 2009.

An extensive range of point of sale and in-store merchandising, including stand alone display cases, clip strips and counter-top dispensers are available, alongside a dedicated category management team offering help and advice on the best products for individual retailers.

X Bites will be available in the following configurations:

X Sticks 25g RRP 89p 36 per case
X Bites 36g (convenience only) RRP £1.19 20 per case
X Bites 72g (grocery only) RRP £2.19 10 per case
