For the first time in 20 years, Porkinson - the iconic sausage invented by photographer Norman Parkinson - has introduced a new variant to its gourmet range.
The new Oxford sausage - delicately flavoured with lemon, nutmeg and sage - aims to invigorate the sausage market by enticing new consumers away from own label.
Belinda Lee, Porkinson Senior Brand Manager says: "The new ‘Oxford' sausage is inspired by an 18th century sausage recipe from the gourmet butchers in Oxford's covered market.
"This history, combined with our brand heritage and 100% British message will add value and innovation to the premium adult sausage sector and appeal to consumers concerned about provenance and welfare."
All the pork used in the new Oxford Porkinson is made from 100% outdoor reared pork shoulder carefully sourced from farms whose pigs have roamed free with continual access to shelters.
Porkinson is currently worth £4m and attracts over 1.5m households as a key driver of the market. The premium adult sausage sector is currently valued at £122m- a growth of nearly 7% since last year.
The Porkinson range comprises Original, Oxford and Chipolatas and is available from supermarkets nationwide, priced from £2.20.
