Dairy Crest relaunches Cathedral City 20g range

Tuesday, 05 August 2008
Dairy Crest is re-branding its snack sized Cathedral City Mature portions under the name ‘Cathedral City Minis’.

It also plans to extend the Minis range from the UK’s number one cheese brand, to include a Cathedral City Mild yet Distinctive variant.

Cathedral City Mild yet Distinctive retains the smooth, creamy texture and delivers the premium quality that Cathedral City is famous for but has been specially developed to cater for those who prefer a milder flavour profile, targeting the family market.

Available from 3rd August, the new Cathedral City Minis range will be available in a 6 x 20g netting bag providing a natural, nutritious and convenient snack for both children and adults. New branded outer-casing will also create clearer stand out on shelf.

The cheese snacking market is currently worth £248m, with 70% of all households purchasing cheese snacking products.

Natural products are currently driving the market while processed cheese snack products are in decline.

Cathedral City Minis are natural and 100% Cheddar, the 20g portions provide 18.5% of the calcium RDA.

Cathedral City Minis are set to drive incremental growth to the cheese snacking category by meeting consumer demand for nutritious and natural snacks.

Lunchbox and on-the-go cheese snacks are becoming more popular with an increase of cheese snacks in adult lunchboxes by 23% and children’s lunchboxes by 19%.

Reflecting this market, Cathedral City Minis will target adult lunchboxes with the Mature variant and children’s lunchboxes with the Mild variant.

Dairy Crest’s Marketing Director, Paul Fraser, comments, “Cathedral City is renowned as a natural, great tasting cheese with variants suitable for the entire family. Although from a small base, Cathedral City Minis have increased in value by 44.2% year on year so we’re confident that with the introduction of the Mild variant, Cathedral City Minis will continue to help grow the market overall and further enhance Cathedral City’s number one position.”
