Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc flies high in Air New Zealand Wine Awards |

Pernod Ricard UK is proud to announce that the Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009 has been awarded a gold medal at the prestigious Air New Zealand Wine Awards, the country's premier wine competition. The Montana Sauvignon Blanc won one of only 13 gold medals awarded, as did another from the Pernod Ricard UK stable - the Stoneleigh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009. Montana's win is particularly special as it coincides with it being 30 years since Montana introduced Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc to the world. Jeff Clarke, Chief Winemaker at Montana explains: "Winning such a prestigious award is fantastic, and to receive this gold medal as we celebrate 30 vintages of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc, makes it even more so. "For us, this award is recognition of the benefit of experiencing more vintages in Marlborough than any other winemaker, as well as our unflagging passion for quality." The Air New Zealand Wine Awards competition is organised by the New Zealand Winegrowers, the national organisation for the country's 1,300 grape growers and winemakers. This year's competition saw 1,655 wines entered from the country's 10 key winegrowing regions. As well as a record gold medal haul, 251 silver medals and 387 bronze medals were awarded by the 26-strong judging panel. Chair of judges at the competition Steve Smith (MW) said this year's competition was characterised by exceptional quality across a wide range of varietals. "This was truly a ground-breaking competition, with remarkable quality shown right across the board. "Judges were briefed to be very demanding when awarding gold medals, so achieving a gold medal is a solid indication of the quality of wines entered this year." Montana Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2009 also a won gold medal at the recent Hong Kong International Wine & Spirit Competition.
