Codorniu launches new-style Spanish wine in UK

Tuesday, 09 December 2008
spanish_quarterGrupo Codorníu is launching The Spanish Quarter wine brand into the UK, with a recommended retail price of £7.99.

The Spanish Quarter wines - classified Viñedos de España - mix traditional Spanish grapes with international varietals that are more familiar to UK consumers.

The two blends on general release are Chardonnay-Albariño white wine and Cabernet Sauvignon-Tempranillo red wine.

The packaging features brightly-painted Spanish cultural images and is said to be "a world away from traditional wine label design and will provide breakthrough stand out on shelf".

"The Spanish Quarter is a wine that over delivers on quality, taste and price." said Carolyn D'Aguilar, UK brand manager for The Spanish Quarter.

"The UK is one of the biggest importers of Spanish wine and the Spanish category is growing in value.

According to latest Nielsen statistics, sales of Spanish wines priced £5-plus have increased by 20.6% over the past year.

The Spanish Quarter with its rrp of £7.99 is set to take advantage of this growth."
