Mateus Rosé adds sparkling version
by Mike Dennis A sparkling version of Mateus Rosé is being launched in the UK through agent First Drinks Brands in a move targeted at both multiple grocers and independent stores. Mateus Rosé Sparkling Brut Rosé made its UK debut at this week's London International Wine Fair (LIWF) and at a likely retail price of £7.99 it will compete on-shelf with Spanish and Italian sparkling wines. First Drinks Brands is said to be negotiating with two leading supermarket chains to stock the drink, while its cash and carry team will soon be presenting the new product to the impulse channel. The 12% alcohol by volume sparkling version is made primarily from Braga, the most widely planted grape variety in the Bairrada region of Portugal. It is being marketed as both an aperitif as well as an accompaniment to main meals and desserts. The new addition joins a Mateus range that also comprises the original Mateus Rosé, a Shiraz Rosé and a Tempranillo Rosé.
