New advertising campaign for Yazoo milkshakes

Yazoo, the UK's No.1 milkshake brand, is to unveil a new advertising campaign as part of their mission to drive growth in the UK flavoured milk category.

Opening with a £1.7m burst of outdoor activity, the new ads will appear on nearly 10,000 sites across the UK, including phone boxes, forecourts and as large executions in a range of high profile locations.

The new creative features a cow trying out a range of different leisure activities from riding a bicycle to high board diving. The tag line simply reads “Milk. Shaken Up”.

Chris Collis, director of marketing for Campina Brands, comments: “As in every category, consumers trust well known brands, and as the only brand supported by national advertising every year, Yazoo has built an extremely strong following.

“This new advertising campaign is part of our on-going objective to grow the flavoured milk category and support retailers. A large proportion of the sites have been selected to ensure that we reach people at the point of purchase, keeping Yazoo front of mind.”

The flavoured milk category is one of the key drivers of growth in the soft drinks market.

In Nielsen’s “impulse” sector, flavoured milk saw 6% value growth in 2007, and is dominated by the Yazoo brand with 31% value share (volume share 37.8%) followed by Frijj and Mars drinks with 22% and 18% shares respectively.

Collis continues: “I am regularly amazed how many retailers miss the opportunity of flavoured milk. As a category, it’s about a quarter the size of water, but often has only two or three facings, usually sold out, compared with metres of water and every conceivable flavour of carbonated drink.

“Flavoured milk is growing fast and I would urge retailers to make room for milkshakes and take full advantage of this additional marketing support.”
