Honey Monster returns in new Sugar Puffs adverts

After many years away from our screens one of television's most-loved ad characters is back: bigger and better than before.

Sugar Puffs TV
Sugar Puffs advert

Honey Monster will front a £3.2m multimedia campaign for HM Foods' cereals Sugar Puffs, Honey Meltz and Honey Waffles, launching with a TV ad on 10 March.

The ad – created by Bray Leino – sees Honey Monster and his housemate about to enjoy their Sugar Puffs, but before they tuck in they follow a bizarrely comical rap ritual which ends with the tagline 'Feed the fun'.

The 10- and 30-second executions will run until May on GMTV, Five, Nickelodeon and multi-channel, and again from early July to mid-August.

Bruce Hutton, Bray Leino managing director, says: “Honey Monster is without doubt one of the classic TV ad characters. Having not been on screen for some years, we wanted to give Honey Monster the chance to express himself in a new contemporary way that only he could.

“But it was essential in doing this that we remained true to the tradition of him being seen as a fun character that kids everywhere would love to have at their breakfast tables. We feel his latest antics bring him up to date and have the power to get people talking.”

Jane James of HM Foods adds: “While it's great to have Honey Monster back on TV again as he is unquestionably synonymous with Sugar Puffs, this campaign is all about using his 'familiarity factor' across a variety of media to promote an expanded range of breakfast cereals.”

I think this is terrible, it has copied the mighty boosh, even using the same tune to the crimp, what is even worse is the fact that in thw write it says "introducing the new way to advertise" it has no mention about how the crimp has been copied.
Lynne 10 Mar 2008 17:55:24
I have seen this ad and it seems to be a Mighty Boosh rip off. Does anyone agree?
Sammy 11 Mar 2008 17:44:03
The biggest rip off of the mighty boosh, I totally agree with you lyn and rachel, this is just scary!! Nobody should mess with the crimp!! Especial not the cookie monster!!
Cassie 11 Mar 2008 17:44:04
This really wound me up this morning. It is a blatant rip off of The Mighty Boosh even (as Rachel said) down to the tune. The Boosh deserve at least a nod for this one even if they didn't write the words used.
Leanne 11 Mar 2008 17:44:04
As possibly the greatest mighty boosh fan there ever will be, i'm disgusted at this advert, it's just a rip of from the crimps they do! If your gonna crimp, BRING IN THE EXPERTS. i will never eat sugar puffs, ever again
Kaylee 11 Mar 2008 17:44:06
OMG that is exactly wot I fort...it has totally copied The Mighty Boosh!!!!
Josie 11 Mar 2008 17:44:06
This is an awful advert. Was the Boosh boys informed? Do they have any say in this??? Lazy advertising if you ask me. Having to resort to copying? *tsk*
Leah 11 Mar 2008 17:44:06
bahaha. The boosh should come at you like a beam, like a ray, like a lazer.
Amy 12 Mar 2008 17:55:46
I agree with all you guys: it is a blatant rip-off of the Boosh! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!!!!!!!
Rowan Horton 12 Mar 2008 17:55:50
I am the biggest boosh fan out there, no word of a lie. I am absolutely FUMING and I havent even seen the ad yet! GRRR! I used to munch on suga puffs for me brekkie every day but now I'm boycotting them. I havent been this angry sice Leeds went into administration!
Anonymous 12 Mar 2008 17:55:51
Oh my god! I saw this the other morning and was convinced it was a dream as it is so blatently a Mighty boosh crimp until now! £3.2m to badly copy someone else is a joke. I'm off to apply for a job in marketing, I can rip anyone off for that amount of money and that little effort. Plus, I am also snitching to Noel and Julian. They invented Crimp. In the night times.
jim liggett 13 Mar 2008 13:17:09
Leave off the Honey Puff Man he is my hero. It's all about the honey money, a thief steals, a genius copies.
Anom 14 Mar 2008 10:26:12
Holy Sh*t Source, Looks like we got ourselves a Crimp Off! Boosh Fans discourage people eating this disgusting copying brand, they dont even mention the Boosh!!! The Boosh are brilliant, i am never touching this cereal again!! The way they do it sounds disgusting aswell!!! Only the Experts can do it right!! Big Up Mighty Boosh Fans!!
Lizzie x 17 Mar 2008 11:53:31
Im the biggest fan of the mighty boosh ever and this advert is ne of the worst ! The man is totally out of tune and if your gunur do a crimp .. At least get Noel And Julian To do ti for you ! i never have liked sugar puffs and after seeing this advert i never wil ! Boosh fancs we Should Discourage the eating of this cereal ! Thankz for readig x
Anonymous 17 Mar 2008 11:53:40
everyone spread the word and make sure NO ONE buys sugar puffs!!! lets make them lose loads of money because they couldn't be arsed to think of their own idea.
heleRn 17 Mar 2008 11:53:41
i think that sugar puffs taste like crap, and that the advert should be removed and all profits given to the boosh, if not then Mr. susan should blind then will his mirror balls and steal it. surely they must be breaking some copy right law. and i don't care if people say "people where doing it before boosh they just gave it a name" it is now theres they OWN ALL CRIMPS !
dan 18 Mar 2008 09:48:17
this is an outrage! the boosh invented the crimp and these lazy people copied it. i'm telling noel and julliet about this. i'm also telling charlie so he'll come at you like a hubba-bubba nightmare. calm a llama down people
Becca 18 Mar 2008 17:45:20
This is a disgrace, i do love sugar puffs but the pure fact that they have knicked Noel & Julian's crimping idea is an outrageeeee! I think the boosh boys should write a crimp attack right back at the sugar puff people or atleast get some money off them! x x x x x
wicksie86 18 Mar 2008 17:45:22
Omg, it seems like some people are so sad firstly all this bs about being the biggest boosh fan stop it its just pathetic. secondly its just an advert. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. so people saying they will boycott a cereal on the basis of a 30 second advert that you are not forced to watch is really lame. people need to get lives perhaps leave the house once in a while lol.
Joe 20 Mar 2008 17:58:18
Such a rip off of something good. I hope the honey monster gets lung cancer, then lets see him do a crimp.
Anonymous 20 Mar 2008 17:58:20
I'm a big fan of the Boosh but to get so wound up over an advert is just stupid. There are a lot more important things going on in the world than this non event. How can someone own a style of music? Get over yourselves. Because someone was once the first person to play rock and roll or hip-hop or reggae does that mean no one else can?
Anynormous Elephant 24 Mar 2008 12:18:45
yes it does, it means no else can .. especially if its the crimp, and it is the crimp. hope the add gets removed
Mr Advert 25 Mar 2008 12:23:21
Lets get it straight. Even if this wasn't a total rip off of someone else's creativity - somebody's getting away with murder at Bray Leino - its still a poor ad. Apparently aimed at children although featuring a 30something male, it has no direction and little for its target audience to relate to. The only way Quaker Oats will benefit from this campaign is if the furor that follows somehow leads to sales. I cannot see that happening though. It's an openly bad advert.
Ric Di Ver 25 Mar 2008 12:23:28
This my friends, is an OUTRAGE! A complete piss take. I do hope they got permission from Barrat & Fielding because that is a pure boosh crimp. The guy on the left is even dancing like vince noir would, if im honest the honey monster kind of looks like howard moon lol! Maybe this will help the boosh to take over the world!!
Dave 25 Mar 2008 12:23:56
Fielding and Barret should sue thier asses off. I fear however, that crimping is not copyright
JayDIZZLE 27 Mar 2008 10:04:54
ERRRR SCUSE ME ROWAN HORTON, I DONT THINK YOU ARE THE BIGGEST BOOSH FAN OUT THERE, COZ LIKE, THAT'S ME. not seen this advert yet..sounds pretty funny really. lol...though i agree, honey monster and this man are obviously doin a Flighty Zeus on us. lol.
Charlotte Hodgkinson 27 Mar 2008 10:05:53
THEY SHOULD HAVE ASKED PERMISSIONNNNNNNNNNNNNN i hate sugarpuffs. :)
Ed 27 Mar 2008 10:19:07
NOOOO I'm the biggest fan of the mighty boosh, and I command we hunt down the honey monster and burn him!
Rob 27 Mar 2008 10:19:13
did anyone watch the boosh's journey through time and space on bbc three? i didnt get it til i read this, but one of their new crimps was 'jokey jokey, didnt see it coming, jokey jokey HONEYMONSTER no no' coincidence?
chard 27 Mar 2008 12:51:05
this is really annoyued me cos i love mighty boosh and i liek sugar puffs but now they have copied boosh, and its not even slighty good! AND the suger puffs people think their really clever for making it
Anonymous 31 Mar 2008 10:21:10
The crimping idea for the ad was undoubtedly 'taken' from the boosh, but when i saw it, it made me laugh and i thought of it more of an homage to the guys, than a rip off. And indeed we musn't forget that crimping did exist before the boosh! however i do appear to be in the minority, so i will let u all fret about the pettiest things, and just say this, lighten up, who really cares, there are more important things in life, just enjoy the comedy!
katie 31 Mar 2008 10:21:22
OMG a total rip off of the boosh!! AS a massive fan i agree with the other boosh fans Burn the honey monster and the sugar puffs- discourage every one to eat them!!! The reference to it on sat -journey through time and space- no coincidence there!! I will from now on never eat this cereal!! Go the boosh fans who care!!
Samantha J. Tableface 31 Mar 2008 10:21:25
Anyone who will have seen the ad will KNOW it's a rip off of Boosh crimping.. and no one will EVER replace the Boosh, especially not that big yellow berk... so I don't think you need to order a mass boycott of Sugar Puffs seeing as they taste like honey jacketed pieces of crap anyway :-) LONG LIVE HOWARD MOON!
Simon 31 Mar 2008 10:21:27
I'm turning my back on them
Harriurt 31 Mar 2008 10:21:31
Errrm totally copied the boosh here!! Its not a comical rap its a crimp yooh idiots!! Whoever the Bray Leino is I think we should shoot him he is not a creative man at all!!
Leonni 31 Mar 2008 10:22:11
im 14 and i dont even know the mighty boosh... So i think its great! me and my friends luv the advert its very hip! -xox-
Anonymous 01 Apr 2008 16:09:43
i personally think that all these mighty boosh fans need to get a life, i like the ad and think it is a complimant to the mighty boosh its a catchy tune, keep on going honey monster. lol
Anonymous 01 Apr 2008 16:09:48
I Love This Advert, I Love it (: I Wanna Know The Words Too (Y)
Leonni 02 Apr 2008 10:38:23
Heyy Again.. For Those Of You Who Wanted The Words.. I Got Them!! =) Sugar Puffs, Sugar Puffs HUP! Honey coated puffs in a milky bath Put 'em in your mouth and they make you laugh Kept in the cupboard taken out for breakfast Spoon's best friend and the fridge's favourite Huff! Puff! Huff-puff! Huff! Puff! Huff-puff! Wheaty chums that settle in transit Golden pips of a sunshine princess -xox- LuvYa =)
Anonymous 02 Apr 2008 10:38:38
what a rip off, it's embarrassing. hope it was meant to be a deliberate reference to the boosh, otherwise it's quite sad that they hought they could et away with it.
Leonni 02 Apr 2008 13:29:05
Will You Stop complaining about "what a rip-off" the advert is. the truth is they have done it and they got away with it cuz people love the advert so leave the advert alone...people are just jealous these days...no one can make money with someone complaining... =)
Anonymous 02 Apr 2008 13:29:25
grrr it's so annoying. if you think that this advert is 'hip' then actually watch the show that created it! it was a completely unique style that they created and that has become the boosh's trademark. There is an entire episode dedicated to crimping. dont waste your time memorising the words to this ripoff advert-watch the real thing!
Leonni 02 Apr 2008 13:57:13
Yeah actually i do think its "hip" and you saying all this aint gonna change my mind! i have watched the "crimp" by the mighty boosh and its a load of rubbish with two men stuck in a hole what a load of crap! so no thank you ill stick the sugar puffs... =)
Anonymous 02 Apr 2008 16:19:21
you appear to have caught up on 3 series of the mighty boosh then in 2 days. i'm impressed. it's a late night show aimed at adults, maybe in a few years you're sense of humour may have advanced a little from cereal ads. howeer it does appear from the comments above that sugar puff's ad has backfired somewhat and they appear to have lost themselves a customer or two.
Anonymous 02 Apr 2008 16:19:23
'the crimp'? what, just the one? you possibly do not get the humour because of your age. 2 days ago you said you'd never heard of the boosh and there have been 3 seires. there isnt much point on telling fans not to be annoyed when you clearly do not watch the show. some people pay good money to buy dvd's and go to live shows and those fans do not appreiciate the boosh's originality being passed off as 'the honey monster expressing himself in a way that only he could.'
Leonni 03 Apr 2008 15:17:44
Your sayin that i havent watched the "3 series" of the mighty boosh as if it is a bad thing. okay people pay to have dvd's and go to live shows but kids like sugar puffs so we pay for them. as you sed ur grown up and an dult u shudnt be complaining about a petty thing like sum1 "copying" sum1. people do it all the time so just get over it...=)
Samantha J. Tableface 03 Apr 2008 15:17:50
I couldn't have put it better myself, Anonymous!
Anonymous 04 Apr 2008 08:21:29
it's not a case of just copying, they have blatently imitated another artist's work and passed it off as their own. it is very unprofessional and shockingly bad advertising. copying in the media is not just 'petty', it can have legal implications - which is precisely what the boosh are looking into at the moment. having not watched 3 series of the mighty boosh is neither good or bad - it just means that you do not have much to base your criticism on.
Jenna 07 Apr 2008 10:01:37
It's an advert for f***s sake get over it!!!! QUALITY!!!!
Leonni 07 Apr 2008 10:02:00
Me Again.. =) Umm well i do understand that it is copyright and everything and i dont really want to critise people which i might have done.. but all i am trying to say really is that i like the advert and you never know they might even pay for using the same crimping style as the mighty boosh but all i wanna say is that i like the advert and i dont really see the point anymore cuz the advert is only on until may! =)
Anonymous 15 Apr 2008 11:23:10
Boycott sugarpuffs now! this is an outragous poor attempt to copy the boosh.
Hmmmm... 30 Apr 2008 12:08:51
I can't STAND this advert, and yes it is definitely a very bad attempt at crimping, no doubt about it. It makes me visibly cringe every time it comes on, and my 12 and 15 year old daughters feel exactly the same - we're all massive Boosh fans and as several of you have already said - this IS an outrage! Vince and Howard need to launch Honey Monster and Quaker out into the blinding whiteness of the Tundra. Sugar Puffs are crap now, anyway. :o(
Harriet 06 May 2008 14:24:33
We have started MANY campaigns on 'Bebo' against the Honey Monster and Sugar Puffs It's up to us, Booshers and the Boosh Boyz to get this ad taken off the air! In a couple of stories I've seen about this subject, there have been quotes and coe on Sugar complaints from our Bebo groups So come on Sugar Puffs...Let's see if you can take on EVERY Boosh fan in the world! :P
chris 14 Jul 2008 13:29:27
to the people that think its a brilliant advert - you're wrong. hence its been removed from the air.
Anonymous 15 Jul 2008 13:09:03
Umm Chris, Your Kinda Wrong Ive Seen It On T.v Loads Of Times These Past Few Days.. Ooh Well Its Not As If The Advert Is Life Changing Or Anything So Well Will All Forget About It In A Few Years Time... =] .xo
Hmmmm... 17 Jul 2008 10:52:46
It did seem to disappear for a while but unfortunately (understatement) it's back again. *insert disgusted screwed-up-face smiley here*. I actually have to leave the room now when it comes on... :o(((
igobymanynames 29 Jul 2008 14:22:53
worse crimp ive ever heard..made my ears bleed!! the money monster should be ashamed of himself..hes nothing on mighty boosh, and never will be.. in julian and noels words.. JOKEY JOKEY DIDNT SEE IT COMING JOKEY JOKEY HONEY MONSTER NO NO!
starletgtt 04 Aug 2008 14:36:09
as a boosh fan i belive the honey monster is helping people become awear of the crimp. maybe crimping will become the new sound if more people would come up with there own. the ad could have been better though
Griff 06 Aug 2008 14:26:01
Apparently, Honey Monster HAS apologised !! http://www.smoothound.org/blog/
james yuill 18 Aug 2008 14:18:05
How dare they steal mighty boosh!!! damn lazy advert makers! having to cash in on other peoples creativity again....
