Malcolm Cowen launches first branded Kir Royal
by Mike Dennis The first branded Kir Royal, a blend of French sparkling wine and a “delicate maceration” of blackcurrants, is being launched in the UK by spirits specialist Malcolm Cowen.
Created by Dijon-based liqueur producer Lejay Lagoute, the Kir Royal contains no colouring agents or added water and is available in 750ml bottles, with an expected retail price of £8.99. Malcolm Cowen expects the product to bridge the sparkling wine and cocktail sectors and the company will be looking to educate consumers on the heritage of the product and suggested drinking occasions, as a celebratory drink, as an aperitif or as an accompaniment to desserts. A ready-made Kir Royal has great potential for the UK market, said David John, sales director at Malcolm Cowen. It already has a strong recognition factor, but it has yet to be created in a branded ready-mixed format.
