R&R launches premium Thornton’s ice cream stick

Wednesday, 02 January 2008
R&R, one of the UK’s top ice cream manufacturers, is delighted to launch Thornton’s individual Ice Cream luxury sticks, capitalizing on the consumer trends for premium and indulgent products.

Toffee Temptation
A highly decadent premium treat with real ingredient integrity and the strength of the Thornton’s brand heritage, Thornton’s Ice Cream sticks are available from February.

The new Thornton’s Ice Cream sticks come in two delicious flavours. Toffee Temptation is an irresistible toffee dairy ice cream swirled with mouth-watering Thornton’s toffee sauce smothered in thick milk Belgian chocolate and Thornton’s Special Toffee pieces.

Appealing to die-hard chocolate lovers, the Chocolate Trio version is creamy half-white dairy chocolate ice cream, swirled with a rich dark chocolate sauce and half-dark chocolate dairy ice cream coated in a thick layer of milk Belgian chocolate.

Charlotte Hambling, Senior Marketing Manager at R&R, comments: “We’re really excited about the launch of the Thornton’s Ice Cream Stick. The product quality is outstanding and by responding to a real trend in premiumisation in this category we are adding value back in to the individual ice cream sector.

“The Thornton’s brand has iconic awareness, as consumers recognise the heritage of the brand and the quality that it promises to deliver. We also expect to attract new consumers to this category, offering a real incremental opportunity for the retailers.”

Priced at RRP £2.69 for three 100ml sticks, both flavours of the new Thornton’s Ice Cream stick will be supported with in store marketing support including sampling and women’s national press targeting the key audience of 35-55 year old women.

Consumer research substantiated the opportunity with exceptional acceptance scores on quality and propensity to purchase.
