The most prestigious awards event for food products on sale in the UK - the Quality Food Awards – now in its 28th year, is delighted to announce the launch of a new Quality Mark to reward products judged to have attained a specific quality level.

The 2007 Quality Food Awards have attracted a record number of entries and judges said the bar has most definitely been raised. The number of quality products in this year's awards has reached a new high and quality, more than ever before, is top of the agenda for retailers and suppliers alike.

The birth of a new award – the Q Mark

It is for this reason that organisers have decided to launch the Q Mark to reward products judged to have attained a high quality standard across the key judging criteria. Products were judged on taste, texture, aroma, appearance, packaging, value for money, nutritional values, ingredients' lists, innovation or key selling points and success or aims in the marketplace.

These products have not necessarily made the shortlist in each of the product categories – although all shortlisted products will also win a Q Mark – but they are products which judges believe are worthy of merit and recognition.

Products which have been awarded a Quality Mark will be given a new Quality Food Awards Quality Mark logo which they can use on pack after the presentation dinner which will be held at the five star venue of Battersea Evolution on 28th November.

The rest of the judging process is unchanged. Judges will still produce a shortlist for each product category and choose a Q award winner from each category which will be announced on the night. As in previous years, the Gold Q will be selected from all of the previous Q winners. New logos for each of the category winners in the Q awards and the Gold Q winner will also be available and clearly distinguishable from the new Q Mark.

The long list of products, which have a received a Q Mark, and the shortlisted products in each product category will be published shortly.
