Cadbury's Trebor Bassett (CTB), the UK's No.1 confectionery manufacturer, will once again be capturing the nation's attention with the launch of a ground–breaking, minute and a half TV advertisement, entitled 'Gorilla' for Cadbury Dairy Milk.

Gorilla ad

The new ad will engage consumers on a personal level, reminding them exactly why Cadbury Dairy Milk is Britain's favourite chocolate brand; the only chocolate to contain a 'Glass and a Half' of fresh, natural milk.

The advertising is the second phase of the £6.2 million marketing campaign which launched earlier this year with outdoor poster activity.

The quirky advert, which is three times the length of a standard ad, is staged like a cross between a short film and a music video. The ad begins with a mysterious close-up of a 'gorilla's' eyes, with Phil Collin's well known song, 'In the Air Tonight', playing in the background.

As the camera pans back you see the life-sized gorilla sitting behind a drum kit in a recording studio. As the chorus begins, the gorilla breaks into a passionate and entertaining drum solo. It is not until the final still that it is revealed that the ad is bought to you by Cadbury Dairy Milk, 'A glass and a half of full joy'.

In initial testing, the TV ad was ranked in the top fifth of all adverts ever tested by Millward Brown for enjoyment. The campaign will run until the end of the year will be seen an average of 10 times by 84% of the adult population.

To coincide with the TV campaign, CTB will also be launching an on pack promotion, 'Win a Prize and a Half', to drive incremental sales of Cadbury Dairy Milk. The competition, which runs from 31st August to 8th March 2008, will offer consumers a chance to win more then 50,000 exclusive money-can't-buy prizes: such as a trip to a fashion show… at New York Fashion Week, or a shopping trip…in Marrakesh.

The 'Win a Prize and a Half' promotion is available across single bar and 250g block Cadbury Dairy Milk, including Cadbury Dairy Milk Turkish, Double Choc, Wholenut, Caramel and Fruit & Nut. Existing barcodes on CTB products will not change.

Kate Harding, Acting Head of Customer Relations at CTB comments:
“Worth £350 million in retail sales value, Cadbury Dairy Milk is the most well known chocolate bar in the UK. With the quirky new 'Gorilla' TV advert, we are reminding consumers why the brand has been is the nation's number one choice since 1905.

“To support the added brand awareness driven by the ad, retailers will also benefit from the original on-pack offer, which is based on the glass and a half unique brand benefit. We're confident the activity will really boost sales.”

Specific POS including dump bins and counter units will be available for 'Prize and a Half'. For POS or more information, please call the Cadbury Trebor Bassett hotline on 0870 191 7343.

What brilliant advertising. I have told everybody I know about it so if that doesn't constitute good advertising I don't know what does.
Anonymous 08 Oct 2007 11:01:13
I LOVE THIS ADVERT SO MUCH! ITS PURE GENIUS. PLEASE DO MORE.
Spike 09 Oct 2007 10:41:49
In answer to the 'why a gorilla?' its quite possibly a link to the son of one of the cadbury brothers, who founded the chocolate empire. Edgar cadbury kept a parrot, a great dane and.... a Rwandan Gorilla as pets.
IESHA 12 Oct 2007 11:43:42
I THINK THIS ADVERT IS FUNNY. AND I LIKE THE GORILLA.AND I ALSO LIKE THE SONG
alphacrust 15 Oct 2007 15:58:45
LIke others, I'm failing to see what a gorilla has to do with Cadburys Dairy Milk... The other thing I find rather disturbing is the fact nobody has talked about the morality of this advert... Surely comments have to be raised about the fact we're praising Cadburys for promoting the use of wild animals for entertainment. Okay, I know it's a guy in a gorilla suit, but the fact people are asking 'is it a real gorilla' kinda worries me that we're so quick to think 'that's cool' rather than stepping back and thinking about the moral values. I think the advert says more about the way the UK people see things rather than praising some flash ad executive. hmmmm
wendie 16 Oct 2007 07:45:22

craigieboy 19 Oct 2007 15:50:34

the man in the gorilla suit is garon michael! thought you'd wanna know.
sarah 13 Nov 2007 15:44:02
Yeah but could the creative who thought of this advert not think of anything better than a gorilla? maybe the company should donate money to all those endangered gorilla's since their so easily used in there adverts! im sure more people would buy the chocolate then! and have people still not figured out the fact the cadbury's chocolate is not as healthy and natural as other chocolates available.!
Tracy Farrell 14 Nov 2007 17:42:07
what's the name of the man in the gorilla suit, because he drums the same way as phil collins.
Anonymous 03 Dec 2007 11:28:58
Love it. The gorilla, music and the sense of energy and passion behind the whole theme. I reckon the gorrilla is simply there to add to this energy whther its fearing side or/and it's cute side, well it related to the monkey family. Anyway love it Cadbury, keep it up but just don't kill it!
Anonymous 04 Dec 2007 15:58:53
brilliant advert is the gorilla real? It must have been about the fifth time watching the advert before I relised that I did not know what the advert was about it was the gorilla that got me.
Chris 01 Apr 2008 16:09:53
