WSTA: SNP plans are chasing headlines

The Scottish National Party (SNP) is chasing headlines rather than attempting to actually solve the problem of alcohol misuse by planning to increase the purchasing age to 21, the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (WSTA) has said.

Jeremy Beadles

Chief executive at the WSTA called the proposals “nonsensical” and urged the party instead to attempt to better enforce existing laws.

He suggested that communities will be made safer if more police officers are placed on the streets.

“Instead of actually enforcing the laws available to tackle problems associated with alcohol misuse, the SNP has decided that headlines are more important than progress,” he said.

Various plans were unveiled today by the first minister in Scotland Alex Salmond in a bid to tackle social problems.
