Moreover, 43% of those polled who drink wine have said that they are consuming a greater quantity of the beverage than they did three years ago.
Chief executive at the WSTA Jeremy Beadles said that despite the relatively poor weather in the UK this year, many people are still opting for rosé.
“Interestingly, the figures show women have increased their rosé consumption the most … the current squeeze on household budgets seems to be reflected in the fact that people are drinking wine at home more often and that promotional offers have become more important to wine drinkers,” he said.
Additionally, 74% of the people questioned claimed that the grape variety is the most important factor when they purchase a bottle.
