Woolworths takes up new line in advice

The store has hit upon a way to clear aisles and encourage new shoppers

Woolworths is helping customers who buy confusing electrical goods by sending them to a specialist advice line.

Talk Me Through It (TMTI) has been contracted by the store to give advice to customers with the ten most complicated electrical goods sold in-store, such as portable DVD players.

Instead of having Woolworths staff tied up dealing with complicated questions, TMTI answers the query. The company is also contracted in a similar way to Comet and Littlewoods, and thus has a degree of specialist knowledge. It answers 97% of questions on the first call, says TMTI managing director Crispin Thomas.

According to Robert Cooke, Woolworths buying manager for electricals and outdoor, “customers don’t have to come back to the store and stand in a queue. You can call TMTI and you won’t be passed around to different people at call centres”.
