Tesco’s plan to back a government campaign against selling cheap alcohol is exactly what the UK has been shouting for, according to Tony Dann, a long-time campaigner for lighter style wines and director of Sovio Wines.
A recent survey by Sovio, which supplies its lighter style wine of just 5.5% to Tesco, showed that more and more people are worried their regular alcohol intake was excessive and are calling for more lighter style wines to be readily available.
Dann said: “Our research backs Tesco’s. People in the UK are worried about the level of alcohol in their choice of wines on offer and the cultural and social problems it can lead to.
“Tesco’s announcement, along with the fact that it is the UK’s leading retailer for lighter style wines, acknowledges that consumers want more choice and responsibility from their local supermarket or pub.”
