Sainsbury’s is expecting to see sales of barbecue and party foods soar as forecasts of warm weather coincides with sporting celebrations.
As many plan parties to mark this summer’s sporting success and keep the festivities going ahead of the upcoming Paralympic Games, temperatures are anticipated to rise as high as 27 degrees today (Friday 10 August) and continue through the weekend.
The retailer is predicting to sell 200% more burgers this weekend than last, with hotdog rolls seeing a 130% increase in forecasted sales and burger buns selling 100% more.
Summer foods are also anticipated to be favourites this weekend, with coleslaw expecting 60% uplift, salad pots 50% and summer eating dishes selling twice as many as usual. Customers will raising a glass in celebration this weekend too, with cider set to sell 60% more and wine seeing a 30% increase in calculated sales.
Keeping cool will also be key for customers, with ice-cream expected to sell 60% more and wafers and ice-cream sauces forecasted to double their sales. With sales of suncare predicted to rise by 100% too and barbecues and coals set to fly off the shelves, many people will be making the most of the last-minute summer sun and getting outside.
