Waitrose unveils second convenience store

Waitrose has opened its second convenience store in the UK in Clifton, Bristol, creating 60 new jobs.

The retailer has committed to a long-term lease for the former Fresh & Wild unit in Clifton. The unit, which has a sales area of 6,000sq ft, has received a multi-million pound makeover ahead of its opening.

Waitrose opened its first convenience store in Nottingham in December. Waitrose says the shops “offer something unique within the convenience market place, building on the brand’s reputation for quality produce and excellent customer service.”

A further two trials of the format, at locations still to be decided, are also expected to open later this year.

Waitrose Clifton manager, Dafydd Moore, said: “Customers will be surprised about how much of the Waitrose offer we fit into a shop of this size.”
