Waitrose is to overhaul its supply chain systems for its six UK warehouses as it gears up for further growth.
The upmarket food retailer’s programme centres on the roll-out of a warehouse replenishment system from Aldata, which is expected to go live in time for Christmas 2010.
Waitrose recently reported a 10.2% rise in sales, making it the fastest growing of the UK’s leading grocers.
The retailer said “significant supply chain complexity” had also been created by the growing number of price-led, in-store promotions, the high volume of fresh produce the stores hold and its commitments to reduce transport-related CO2 emissions,
Liz Gemmill, head of supply chain at Waitrose said: “With the growth we’ve enjoyed across the business, and the ambitious plans we have for the next few years, we knew we had to overhaul our supply chain IT systems in readiness for the future,” said .
