Waitrose is to re-launch its frozen food range in 2010.
The new range will include risottos, pies, casseroles, vegetable accompaniments, bakery products, desserts and cooking ingredients and will appear in stores from 25 January.
The initiative follows an increase in the popularity of frozen foods during the recession.
Executive chef Neil Nugent, who has developed the range, said: “Freezing food means that none of the nutrients or flavours are lost, so in my opinion it’s the best way to preserve food.
“As with all our products, all the fish is sustainable, the chicken is British, and the pork is from UK outdoor bred pigs.
“All the products can be cooked straight from frozen, so there’s no messing about with defrosting times – it’s all ready to be cooked when you need it.
“The beauty of frozen foods is that you only use what you need and keep the rest for another time. You’re not wasting any food, or any money.”
