The Mayor of Bedford Borough has officially opened a new Waitrose store on Goldington Road, Bedford.
Mayor Dave Hodgson, said: “I am absolutely delighted to welcome Waitrose to Bedford. Since Waitrose first announced their intention to open a store here, many residents have told me how much they are looking forward to enjoying a local Waitrose and the further choice it will provide for shoppers locally. Waitrose’s commitment to Bedford is more good news for our local economy, bringing new jobs and investment, and I wish the store the very best.”
Rose McHugh, Principle Activities Co-ordinator at Bedford and District Cerebral Palsy Society, said: “We are thrilled and honoured to be selected as Waitrose’s charity in the new venture in Bedford. Close community relationships are vital to ensure we can continue to respond and meet the need to support families.
“This will help us offer our summer playscheme is in full swing offering exciting, diverse, inclusive and empowering activities such as rock climbing, canoeing, archery, ice skating, beach and sports-themed days to young people with disabilities who might only have dreamed of such as climbing to the top of the 15 metre high wall.”
Through its Community Matters scheme Waitrose Bedford will donate £1,000 every month between three local causes as nominated by customers and partners, as Waitrose employees are known. Customers receive a green token when they shop which they can put in the box of their cause of choice.
