Waitrose is “pain in the arse”, says Ocado founder

Jason Gissing, head of finance and marketing at Ocado, has revealed tensions between the home delivery service and its grocery partner Waitrose.

In an interview with The Guardian, Gissing says: “They are a pain in the arse to deal with at the corporate level. They don’t speak with one voice.”

But he adds: “It is like a marriage – we love each other really.”

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph claims that customers are losing £40 a month by buying their shopping in Waitrose stores rather than through Ocado, which claims to match Tesco on many branded goods.

The paper says the price discrepancies point to increasing tensions between Ocado and Waitrose, which has recently begun promoting its own Waitrose Delivers service harder.

The Guardian also reports Ocado looking to expand into areas such as clothing and health & beauty.
