Waitrose: Christmas cooking stressful for Brits

Almost half of Brits (44%) believe that cooking Christmas dinner is a stressful experience and many have a drink to get them through it, Waitrose said today.

Of the shoppers polled by the retailer, 23% said they have a tipple when preparing the meal, as 12% revealed they argue with other family members on the big day.

Another 15% said they worry about the success of cooking once it is finished, while 9% are concerned about being judged by the people eating the dishes.

Executive chef Neil Nugent said: “Christmas Day can be extremely nerve-wracking for those putting food on the table.”

Waitrose has a series of advice tips for chefs, such as leaving the turkey at room temperature for a couple of hours before it is cooked.

It added that the bird should be left for 20 minutes to stand once it is cooked, and not wrapped in tin foil whilst cooking.

The company has seen a rise in demand for cheaper cuts of meat as the recesion hurts people in the pocket, it reported at the beginning of the week.

UK consumers are cutting back on Christmas food spending, a report from Lightspeed Research has said.
