Tesco has been named European Retailer of the Year at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) banquet held last night in London.
Tesco was singled out for using its own-label wine range to highlight food matching and educating the customer “at many levels”.
The IWSC said: “New aisle signage and customer roadshows showed innovation, while in-store magazines, leaflets and online communication were lively and informative and retained a sense of social responsibility.”
Waitrose was named European Wine Retail Buyer of the Year, while Sainsbury’s supermarkets picked up European Retail Spirits Buyer of the Year.
