Tesco uniform “undercuts Asda price”

Tesco has unveiled its new school uniform range and said that it can better rival Asda on price, after the latter revealed similar items last week.

According to the supermarket, its deal is 12.5% cheaper than Asda at £3.50 and includes a jumper, polo shirt plus skirt and trousers for children beginning school.

Moreover, Tesco claimed that kids will require duplicate items in some instances and is therefore offering multipack deals at £8.85 for girls and £9.85 for boys.

Clothing chief executive at Tesco Terry Green commented that his firm has attempted to slash prices in light of the recent economic problems unfolding.

“We know that many parents stock up on extra polo shirts to see their kids through the school year as we sell 2.7m of them in the Back to School period alone,” he said.

Tesco stated that 40% of items in the school line are cheaper than they were in 2007, while its three for two offer is being used on the whole range, including underwear and socks.

Efforts were made to ensure that clothing options across a wide range are featured as part of the changes, Mr Green said.
