Tesco still selling Irish pork after dioxin scare

Tesco will continue selling pork products from Northern Ireland despite fears the meat is contaminated with dioxins.

A spokesman said the supermarket chain is aware of where its meat is sourced from, and is happy that it is safe to eat, reports the Daily Mail.

He commented: “We know where our ham comes from and can guarantee, 100%, that it does not come from farms linked to the dioxin contamination.

“The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has given us no advice to remove products from sale and so we see no reason to do so.”

The FSA has originally said that consumers should not buy or eat any meat products from Ireland after the scare, when dioxins were contained in thousands of pigs believed to have eaten feed containing them.

But it has now said that shops can sell products from Ireland if they wish, if they are sure they do not contain dioxins.
