Tesco named wine supermarket of the year


Multiple retailer, Tesco was awarded the title Supermarket of the Year at the International Wine Challenge last night.


Beating competition from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and M&S, Tesco was praised for its comprehensive and exciting new portfolio of wines and the success of its online operation.

The judges took into account trade opinion, with the retailer commended for its strong relations with suppliers and agents.

Tesco last won the award in 1999.

Dan Jago, category director for beers, wines and spirits, said: “This award means a huge amount to all of us at Tesco. Jason Godley and his wine team have worked exceptionally hard over the last year and this accolade reflects their dedication.”
