Such a move is the clearest signal so far that Tesco wishes to expand its US operations further afield than the west coast of the country, the paper says.
But a spokeswoman at Tesco said to the news provider: “At the moment, our focus is very much on the west coast and opening stores there.”
The Independent adds that operator of Tesco’s Clubcard Dunnhumby already has premises in the Illinois city.
Earlier this week, Tesco daid that it is to make inroads into India with the development of a cash-and-carry business alongside technical support for retailer Trent.
