Tesco has cut diesel and petrol prices by 3p a litre, with the new prices effective from today.
Unleaded can now be bought for between 82.9p and 85.9p, while diesel is available for between 94.9p and 97.7p.
Commercial director Richard Brasher said to the Guardian: “There will be lots of people waking up on New Year’s Day worrying about what 2009 means for their finances and for many the cost of motoring will be a significant factor.”
Tesco began its biggest-ever sale on Boxing Day this year, including big-ticket items.
It also reported a drop in sales growth at the beginning of this month.
