Tesco has followed the same route as Asda by offering cheap alcohol – crates of Carlsberg Export for £5.
Cases of the beer, containing 18 bottles, have prompted “chaos” in a number of Tesco stores, some staff said.
The deal means that each 275ml bottle of the lager is available for 27.8p.
“It is a great offer and I hope people are enjoying it,” a spokeswoman at the supermarket said.
Earlier this week Asda was criticised by Alcohol Concern for selling four 440ml cans for 90p.
This year Tesco has also said that it would support the introduction of legislation that may stop it from offering cut-price alcohol.
