Somerfield sell-off “still on the cards”

The sale of Somerfield is going ahead, despite speculation last week that the auction would be called off, says The Independent on Sunday.

The Co-op was thought to be the only bidder for the whole chain, although Asda was said to be interested in the larger stores.

But the newspaper this weekend quoted a source close to Somerfield owner Robert Tchenguiz saying: “People are saying this is all over but it’s not by a long shot. There’s still a lot of interest in Somerfield and we expect further bids to come.”
