Set back for Sainsbury’s store plan

Sainsbury’s has suffered a setback in its bid to build a new supermarket in Bishop’s Waltham, Hampshire.

In a public consultation organised by Sainsbury’s, 51% of residents who responded opposed the new Abbey Mill site store compared to 46% who supported it.

Sainsbury’s has announced it will now send out details of the finalised proposals to 13,000 people before it presses ahead with a planning application, which is expected in the next three months.

The retailer is convinced it can overturn the small majority of residents who are opposed to the plan.
