The package announced by the Scottish government today to boost the country’s food and drink industry abroad has been welcomed.
Scotland Food & Drink said businesses operating in the sector are likely to be helped by the investment, revealed today by MSP Richard Lockhead.
Chief executive Paul McLaughlin said: “In addition to a series of invaluable support programmes, the package will deliver sizeable financial return; more than 100 Scottish companies are set to benefit from an enhanced programme of trade delegations which will deliver an estimated £60m worth of overseas sales
“£1.8m will be invested in trade advisors to give companies the support networks required to break into international markets.
“Scotland’s food and drink industry is now better placed to capitalise on lucrative, international opportunities and the economic interests of the industry are at the forefront of Scotland Food & Drink and the Scottish government’s plans.”
