Sainsbury’s shoppers show animal welfare support

Sainsbury’s customers care the most about chicken welfare, according to new research carried out by Kantar Worldpanel for RSPCA Freedom Food.

It revealed that Sainsbury’s sells more Freedom Food chicken than any other retailer.

Judith Batchelar, director of Sainsbury’s brand, said: “This is all part of our commitment to improving chicken welfare whilst providing our customers with choice and good value.

“We introduced Freedom Food chicken in 2004 and the range was boosted in 2007 when Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall brought the subject of chicken welfare to the public’s attention. Sales at Sainsbury’s have gone from strength to strength ever since.”
