Sainsbury’s boss to reveal discounter competition

Chief executive at Sainsbury’s Justin King is likely to reveal this week that the retailer has been hit by discount retailers Aldi and Lidl.

Analysts have predicted that Sainsbury’s will have lost ground to its rivals when its trading statement is released on Wednesday, reports the Independent on Sunday.

James Collins from Deutsche Bank said: “Switching data suggests that Sainsbury’s has not fared well in terms of share loss over the summer, losing ground to Tesco and Morrisons in particular.”

Last week, Marks & Spencer said that food sales dipped by 5.9% in the 13 weeks until 27 September.
