Workers in the retail and service sector are more likely to be considering a job move than those in any other industry, claims a report.
Three out of ten are or might be doing so – 7% more than public sector employees who are the next most restless – according to the research commissioned by London-based headhunters McGraw Stone.
The job insecurity generated by the recession means that only one in ten adults is currently seeking a new job, but in the retail and service sectors this jumps to 13%, with a further 17% considering a move.
Some 19% of retail/service staff would be prepared to move for the same or slightly less money.
“Despite having a greater desire to move jobs than those in other sectors retail and service workers are not very pro-active about their job search,” claimed Nick Davies, McGraw Stone’s managing partner.
“Only 5% of them have sent their CV to an agency and only 11% look at recruitment ads. Although 17% would or might consider a job if someone called them ‘out of the blue’ to discuss it, this compares with almost two thirds (64%) of employees in other sectors.”
