Retail sales growth has slowed, say official figures


The volume of retail sales grew by just 0.4% in the three months to the end of December 2007, show figures from the Office for National Statistics, out today.


This compares with growth of 1% in the three months to the end of November.

The growth rate was 0.3% for predominantly food stores, while no growth was reported for non-food stores.

Month-on-month figures show sales volume in December actually fell by 0.4%, although food stores saw sales marginally up, by 0.1%.
