Over half the population in the UK still does not shop online, largely because of fears they will be the victims of fraud, a new survey has said.
Of those polled by CyberSource, 41% of shoppers who are not using the internet say this is because of security concerns.
And 66% of consumers – including those who are buying goods on the web – are worried about the risks of online fraud.
CyberSource said a third of people polled have been the victims of online credit card fraud, or know someone who has.
Managing director Simon Stokes said: “The challenge to the industry is educating consumers to shop safely, to minimise their exposure to fraud.
“As more people gain access to the internet and realise the convenience, value, and safety of shopping online, I believe we’ll see a higher percentage trying and staying with this form of purchase.”
In January, Amazon said it is rolling out its online grocery service in the UK, after a similar scheme in the US.
